It does if the organization that hired you for the assignment says it does.
it really depends on the requirements, mostly you would want to test the functionality of the web pages, links, validation of links, labels and if it involves database then backend testing as well.
There are many things that could be included in GUI testing so I suggest (like Joe & Dave before) that you try to get some more guidance from your org.
In the meantime a couple of things that I always keep in mind when reviewing Web GUI (and not functionality and any other aspects) is to test in multiple browsers & versions, test what happens in you re size the pages and/or change the resolution of the pages, and what happens when I refresh the page.
Again, there are many things that may require special attention, so better go and get some clarifications.
